Are you stuck at home and want to make some extra money? Did you lose your job because of the Covid-19 economic crisis? Do you just want a side hustle? A print on demand business can be viable. It is quite easy to start a print on demand business from anywhere in the world, once you know what you want and how to find it. Today, I will discuss how you can start this business, where to source products and where to sell your products. Firstly, what does print on demand means? It simply is a printing technology and business process in which products are not printed until the company receives an order, allowing prints of single or small quantities. Some of the things that you can print on demand are T-shirts and other clothing, sneakers and other shoes, bags and purses, bedding, shower curtain, cups and many more. These can be done on your cellphone, Tablet, I Pad or computer.
How to start and where to source products?
Three of my favorite companies to get things printed on demand are Printful, Printify and Kin Custom. A quick google search will bring you to their websites where you will create an account by entering your email, username, password, address, credit card or debit card details. After doing this you can start creating your designs on whatever products you want to sell. Your credit or debit card will not be charged until you order the products from the company which you will do after a customer orders from you and pays you. The companies mentioned above can all be linked to various eCommerce websites where you will sell your products (these I will discuss below).
Now as I said there are a wide range of products available, so all you have to do is to decide what your niche will be. It can be male or female clothing and accessories, baby clothes, pet’s clothing and accessories, home decor like bedding, wallpaper or shower curtain.
How to create your designs?
If you are not very creative, you do not have to worry. T-shirts are very trendy and you can put quotes on your design to be printed. You can also put pictures, emojis, or whatever popular slangs are trending right now. There are also lots of cool apps that allow you to create cool designs.
Where to sell your products?
Now that we have found companies to print our products and we have designed our products, it is time to sell them. You will need to create a website to sell your products. There are many eCommerce websites that you can use like Shopify, BigCommerce, Weebly, Wix, Magento, WooCommerce and WordPress, and Squarespace. Some are more complicated to setup than others and some will cost more than others. You can try to figure it out by yourself or you can hire someone to set it up for you (You can hire me to create your website). The three print on demand companies that I mentioned above can all be linked to these websites that I just spoke about with just a click. You will also need to create a logo for your business and once again you can figure out how to make one yourself or you can hire me to create a professional logo for you. Your logo should reflect your brand through the colors you choose, the font and the design.
How to price your product?
When you make your designs, you will see how much the item cost and they will ask you to enter your profit margins in dollars or percentage. The base price, plus your profit margin will be calculated to come up with your final sale price. As a new business owner, you can price lower than your competitors and then you can always increase prices after. When someone orders your products and you place the order with the companies, they will ship the products to your customers.
Where to advertise your products?
Social media is the easiest place to advertise your products. Start with posting on your pages and ask your friends and family to share them on their pages. You can also ask your friends and family to buy from you and to tell other people about your business. You should also purchase a few sample products to check on the quality of the product as well as to take pictures of your products. The print on demand websites will have picture perfect professional mock-up photos of your products that can be used in your advertisements and on your website as well.
