The world is slowly going back to normal in terms of more businesses opening up, more people getting the COVID-19 vaccine (I Thought I was going to die from the side effects of my second shot LOL), even more people traveling the world. What I found fascinating though, was the lack of available workers. I mean, let’s face it; in some cases nobody wants to go back to working for minimum wage and many businesses fail to realize this. More and more people are turning to side hustles to help them and their families financially. If you are a creative like me, then this post is for you!
I truly believe that creative people have special powers. I mean, creatives can do most, if not all of these: you can cook, bake, paint, draw, make jewelry, style outfits or even someone’s home etc. Am I right? Am I right? LOL. Let’s take a look at five money-making side hustles for a creative person. Firstly, you will need to make a list of the things that you are good at and the things that you are most passionate about.
Making and selling crafts
Are you good with your hands? If you like doing arts and craft then this one might be for you. First decide what you can make, if there is an audience for it and what problem can you solve with this product. For example, Mary loves arts and craft and loves making paper flowers. She has lots of friends on social media and even in her community, that have kids. Mary decided to make moveable backgrounds for photo-taking out of paper flowers that can be used at events like parties. There’s a market for this business among Mary’s peers and she can stand out from her competitors by offering 1-2 day shipping or offering to put it up and take down the back drop after (if the location is nearby).
Selling NFTs Online
An NFT (Non-fungible token) is a digital asset that represents real-world objects like art, music, pictures, videos, memes, GIFs etc. They are sold and bought online mostly using cryptocurrencies. Cryptocurrency is a digital currency that has been exploding in recent years. Jack Dorsey, the owner of Twitter, sold his first tweet as an NFT for $ 2.1m. Lately many persons have been getting involved in this field; sports teams are now selling great game photos as NFT’s. Therefore, if you can draw, do animation, graphic designing, photography etc., then you can give this one a try. You might become an overnight sensation!
Do you love planning events? Do you have an eye for detail? Event planning is fun and doesn’t necessarily need a lot of start up cash. You can start by offering this service in your local community or to your friends. Use your creativity to make handmade décor items. This might be just what you need to stand out from your competitors. Jocelyn Chin and Coco Chan started a luxury picnic planning business during the pandemic and now they make upwards of $15,000 per month. They plan the picnic for their customers, as well as provide the décor and food. They set up everything and remove them once the guests are done. Picnics can be held at different beaches, parks etc., as long as it is what your guests want.
If you love fashion and dressing up, this might be up your alley. You will have to spend hours going through different pieces to find the right items, but you’ll be fine because you love dressing up anyway. LOL. You can start by researching thrift stores that are close to you. You can also, sell your old clothes or find vintage pieces online that you can resell. People who are into vintage items will be your audience and there are many places online that you can sell your items like Poshmark, Depop etc.
There is a lot of money that you can make if you are a great writer. Writers are always in demand, whether it be writing descriptions of products for a company’s website, writing articles for online publications, proofreading or writing resumes. Writer’s make on average $30 an hour; of course the more experience you have, the more you will end up making. Just google writing jobs online and you will see so many different options and guess what the best part is? This is a job that you can do anywhere in the world as long as you have internet access.
There are so many other areas in the creative field that you can find great business ideas. If you plan, be consistent, work hard, you can turn your creative passion into a full time income. As always thanks for reading! Let me know in the comments other side hustles that would be great for creatives. And if you are a creative looking to start a side hustle, let me help you. XOXO
